I was in France, based in Paris, a few years back… and that’s what I like about D.C. too (note that I’m really trying to stay positive!), it’s got a very Continental template to it…that’s not much of stretch considering the people and era that it came from… yes, let me say that dirty word, it seems almost European! ( oooops :: stay positive, nick, stay positive, don’t go there). .And just like Europe, security is abundant, especially in a target rich environment, which was also the case in N.Y.C. (They did not like me taking that picture, but I was only warned off, not tazed!)
D.C. was partially designed by Pierre (Peter) Charles L’Enfant, and there’s a subway stop at L’Enfant Plaza too. He was also involved with civil design in early New York City . . well, that explains everything! But things unraveled from him as things do…alas. .
