flashback to L.A.!
My son Sam is a digital efx genius. . I’m his dad, I can say that…He’s in L.A. and on my recent visit went out with him solo, no mom along. Well, we go shoot a couple of rounds at the famous Los Angeles Gun Club. It was educational . . can’t jam rounds into a clip for the life of me, time for a shot gun.
But what really made me proud was my fatherhood investment paid off! All those years of hauling him and his sister around Japan Town in San Francisco branded him with a love of noodles! So he took me to Daikokuya, The Original Noodle and Rice Bowl. I knew it was going to be good, it was cash only! Insanely good, cheap, biff bam boom service, vintage Japanese movie posters on the wall, curling from years of cooking moisture. What’s not to like? Plus the servings were not large, try gargantuan. . .
Earlier that week, we had gone as a group to Shin-Sen-Gumi Hakata Ramen, also in Little Tokyo. The pictures are from that location. And I got my one and only tourist T shirt there with blossoms and a tiger. Reminded me of the one I wore until it vaporized from the long gone San Francisco Robata Bar, Toraya. Not the J-town one, but the one that was on Fillmore St. What was striking about the L.A. one, they made a chandelier from noodle strainers! Very clever and spot on branding wouldn’t you say!
